I currently live in Thousand Oaks,
California - with my wife Becky, and my son, Tanner. I have
taught high school art for over 30 years. In 1987 I had an opportunity
to study watercolor with Katherine Liu and this eventually led to my
interest in marine and wildlife. While I have worked 3 dimensionally
since my college days, my love for painting is sustained through the
challenge of so many painting mediums. I enjoy learning about the
mediums and experimenting. While I am fascinated by wildlife, my
artistic goal is not necessarily limited to just copying the animal. I
am also interested in expressing myself with the medium I happen to be
working in at the time.
I have been fortunate to be able to
work with some wonderful artists throughout my career. Early on I
studied with Sir Bernardus Weber , John Solem and the above mentioned
Katherine Liu. In the field of ceramics, I was mentored by the late
Vivika and Otto Heino. My world, from the classroom to my home and
studio, is an incredible atmosphere of creativity. My wife has her own
jewelry business and my son has written a novel. We all enjoy the
process and often times we are all working in three different areas.
My artwork has been exhibited
throughout the United States and I have also created commercial designs
for aquariums and various companies. I am still excited to start a new
painting or make something from a lump of clay. I could not imagine
doing anything else. |
